There was a kaleidoscope of colour to be found at Ballybrit yesterday – and glorious sunshine to show it off!
The crowds turned out in force for Ladies’ Day at the Galway Races, and the Her Best Dressed competition. After doing the rounds of the racecourse in the morning, our judges – broadcaster Síle Seoige, author and nutritionist Rosanna Davison and Her‘s Gillian Fitzpatrick, aided by roving fashion reporter Ciara O’Doherty – managed to pick out 20 contenders from the hundreds of stylish hopefuls.
By mid afternoon, that number had been whittled down by half and the Top 10 finalists were announced on stage. After more careful deliberation by the judges, at 3pm came the big announcement that Eileen Lundon had been chosen as the Best Hat winner, while Pamela Uba was crowned the overall Best Dressed winner.
The news was greeted by cheers in the Her tent – as well as some tears of joy from milliner Caithriona King who had made Eileen’s hat.
After the prizes were presented, the Ladies’ Day crowds continued to enjoy the music, bubbles and, of course, that sunshine on what was a truly special day at Ballybrit.
