Parents of Parnell Square victim share heartbreaking reality of her injuries

The girl injured in the Parnell Square stabbing has a long recovery ahead of her

Their daughter suffered life-changing injuries in the November 2023 attack.

She spent 281 days in CHI Temple Street but was discharged from the hospital last September.

Her family has been sharing updates with the public following the attack, but their latest update is a heartbreaking one.

Her family explained that they may be optimistic about her progress, but the reality they're facing is harrowing.

They wrote on GoFundMe: "There is a big difference between optimism and reality.

"Here is what is real until now with our little girl:
1. No, she is not walking.
2. No, she is not eating.
3. No, she is not talking.
4. We don't know when or if she will walk again.
5. We don't know when or if she will talk again.
6. We don't know what or if she remembers anything from that day.

"We are hopeful that she will regain those skills, but the truth is that we don't know," they said.

"And, although it is well over a year, it is too soon to know for sure what her outcome will be from all of this," the family added.

Last year, her parents confirmed that their little girl suffered an acquired brain injury.

"She has made great progress, and we don’t wish her to stop. Only time will truly tell. Some people with acquired brain injuries have still shown change and improvement up to 10 years later. We’ve got time,” they shared.

“It is a lot to take in for all of those involved: the children, the parents, the school staff. I would like to thank everyone for their love and support over these 12 months. Hug your loved ones extra tight,” they added.
