Parenting influencer Kelly Hopton-Jones has accidentally run over her 23-month-old son with her car.
The 36-year-old said she was taking her daughter Lily to get doughnuts before a dance performance, and that her husband, Brian, had planned to stay home with their 23-month-old Henry, before meeting up with them later.
However, the day quickly turned to tragedy, as Kelly explains that in a 'matter of seconds' it turned into the 'worst day' of her life.
In a post on Instagram, Kelly said that Brian had helped Lily get into the car, and was waving goodbye 'between our car and Henry, who was in the garage'.
However, within seconds, Henry had been hit by the vehicle that Kelly was driving.
Kelly explained that their neighbours rushed to help, and looked after Lily while she and Brian rushed Henry to hospital.
The toddler underwent X-rays, a CT scan and a neurological exam. These showed no injury to his legs, chest and neck, or his internal organs or spinal cord. The neurological exam found no signs of head injury or impairment.
However, Henry did suffer a fractured pelvis, and some abrasions.
Thankfully, doctors said Henry's injuries are something he can recover from.
"We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could have happened when we were right there," Kelly wrote.
"I don't have that answer. But I do know that this has changed us."
Kelly shares her and her family's life on Instagram, where her Hillside Farmhouse account has over 65,000 followers.
Fellow parenting influencer, Emilie Kiser, commented on Kelly's post, writing: "I'm so incredibly sorry."
Kiser's son died by accidental drowning last year.
