One person killed after rollercoaster derails at amusement park

One person has died and several have been injured after a rollercoaster derailed in Sweden.

The incident occurred at the Grona Lund amusement park in Stockholm. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the Jetline ride partially derailed on Sunday, June 25th.

The harrowing incident occurred just after 11.30 am. According to reports, the front part of the train partially derailed. It then stopped in the middle of the track at between six and eight meters.

There were 14 people on board at the time of the accident. One person tragically died and nine were also injured.

A spokesperson for the park issued a statement following the tragedy.

“Today, what is not allowed to happen, happened. An accident in the roller coaster Jetline led to the death of one person and several were injured,” they confirmed.

“It’s a sad day at Gröna Lund and our thoughts go out to those affected and their relatives,” they continued.

“An accident like this should not be able to happen, and we will do everything we can to find out how it could have happened. Gröna Lund will now remain closed for at least one week, to be available to relatives and support our staff.

“We are launching our own technical investigation and assisting the police in their investigation.

“We will reach out to those affected and their families and do what we can to support them. At the same time, we take care of the employees who need support.

“We understand that there are many questions and concerns, and we will update the information as soon as we know more. We know many of you are sharing this great sadness, our thoughts are first and foremost with those affected, their families, and all our guests and staff.

“The grief is extremely heavy,” they wrote following the tragic accident.
