Ireland could ring in the New Year with a stunning natural light show, as the Northern Lights are forecasted to grace the night skies.
According to Aurora Alerts Ireland, this rare phenomenon might be visible across large parts of the country tonight.
The dazzling display is linked to heightened solar flare activity recorded earlier on December 30th.
If skies remain clear, the Aurora Borealis could light up the horizon as far south as Dublin, offering a memorable sight from 6:00 pm this evening until 3:00 am on New Year’s Day.
However, weather conditions might dampen the experience in some regions.
Status Yellow weather warnings have been issued for rain and wind in several coastal counties, potentially obstructing views of the celestial event.
Rain Warnings:
- Donegal: A yellow warning for rain remains in effect until 11:00 am tomorrow.
- Cork and Kerry: A 24-hour rain alert began at 6:00 am today.
Wind Warnings:
- Donegal, Mayo, and Galway: High winds are expected from midnight tonight until 11 a.m. tomorrow.
While not all areas may enjoy clear skies, those fortunate enough to avoid the cloud cover could witness an unforgettable start to 2024.
