More than 40 people have been killed following a road crash in the southwest of France, according to reports.
The accident, involving a truck and a bus, is said to have occurred near Bordeaux in the southwest of the country at approximately 7.30am local time today.
It is believed that both drivers along with a number of passengers on board the bus have died. Sky News reports that at least 42 people were killed and more injured in the head-on collision.
Local media says that the coach and lorry burst into flames on impact and that up to 60 firefighters rushed to the scene.
The bus was reportedly travelling from the village of Petit-Palais in the early hours of the morning. Sud Ouest newspaper reports that many of the passengers were French pensioners who were taking a day trip to Bearn.
Speaking about the incident, President Francois Hollande stated that it was a “terrible tragedy”.
