Met Éireann warn that snow and widespread frost will hit Ireland tonight

Olivia Hayes

It’s coming.

It feels like we’ve been waiting for the snow to hit Ireland for a while now, however Met Éireann is predicting that wintry conditions are set to head for the country tonight.

Today isn’t looking too bad but tonight it’s likely it will take a turn for the worse.

“Cloudy and misty in many areas this morning, with patchy rain and drizzle, but brightening up gradually from the west, with sunny spells developing and just a few isolated showers. Cold, with maximum temperatures of 5 to 8 Celsius, in mostly moderate northwesterly winds, fresh and gusty at times near coasts.”

Meanwhile, “Tonight will be dry, with clear intervals, but cloud will increase in Atlantic coastal counties. Very cold, with widespread frost and a risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperatures minus 3 to plus 2 Celsius. A few mist or fog patches may develop also, in mostly light southwesterly or variable breezes.”

And as for tomorrow: “Monday morning will be mainly dry, with frost clearing quickly. Cloud will gradually increase from the west, with rain developing along west and southwest coasts by late morning, extending gradually eastwards during the afternoon and early evening, possibly turning to sleet in parts of Ulster, with a risk of hill snow.

“Very windy also, with strong and gusty southerly winds. Clearer conditions, with scattered showers, will follow during the evening and early night, but it will turn much colder, with many of the showers turning wintry. Maximum temperatures 4 to 8 degrees, coldest in Ulster.”

Wrap up and stay inside!
