Met Éireann give weather update as Tropical Storm Helene nears Ireland

It’s going to get pretty miserable over the next week or so.

Storm Helene is due to arrive in Ireland this week with experts forecasting some extreme weather from Monday until early Thursday and now Met Éireann has released new information about what exactly we can expect. With today remaining mainly dry with some sunny spells, the rain will begin overnight with showers starting to move up over Munster and Connacht heading into tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain with freshening southerly winds keeping things cool. Heading into Monday night is when we’ll begin to see the remnants of tropical storm Helene. According to the Met Éireann website:

“This is expected to bring high-intensity rainfall over a short timeframe. "The Storm is expected to move quickly through the region clearing the rain overnight. “Winds associated with the storm are currently expected to be strongest at sea and along the south and southeast coasts, with winds overland expected to be moderate to fresh, easterly in direction at first, then becoming cyclonic variable as the eye of the storm passes over.”

Tuesday is expected to remain windy although showers are expected on southern and western coasts. Wednesday will see more heavy rain and strong southwest winds with things beginning to clear heading into Thursday.
