Met Eireann, Bank Holiday, August, Forecast

Scratch those outdoor plans…

Met Eireann’s forecast for the Bank Holiday weekend seems to suggest a total washout nationwide.

The east and west will provide the starting ground for incoming showers, but they’re due to spread nationwide across the weekend.

There will be some solace along the east coast on Friday, but for now, predictions of any sunshine end there.

Here’s what the current forecast (as of August 2nd) said:

Friday

Things will be bright to begin with on Friday with hazy sunny spells and isolated showers.

Cloud will gradually thicken from the Atlantic with outbreaks of rain developing in western coastal counties during the afternoon and spreading eastwards later.

Highs of 15 to 18 degrees are expected with light to moderate westerly breezes.

Widespread rain with heavy falls will bring a risk of spot flooding in the evening.

Winds will be mostly light to moderate variable but fresh to strong at times near western and southern coasts.

Saturday

A wet and blustery start across the east the country with rain which will be heavy at times, clearing into the Irish Sea.

Things will begin to brighten up with drier conditions and scattered showers in the west. These will gradually extend to all parts by the early afternoon.

Moderate to fresh and gusty northwest winds will moderate by early afternoon. Highs of 15 to 18 degrees.

Showers will become largely confined to Atlantic coasts with long clear spells developing elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in a mainly light westerly breeze.

Sunday

Current predictions show a mix of sunny spells and showers in light to moderate westerly winds. Highest temperatures ranging 15 to 19 degrees, coolest in the northwest.

Bank Holiday Monday

According to the Irish forecasters, “current indications suggest increasing cloud with another spell of rain moving in from the Atlantic.”
