RTE broadcaster and writer Manchán Magan, who was widely known for being a strong advocate of the Irish language, died after a hard-fought battle with prostate cancer.
This week, friends and family members of the beloved writer gathered in Dublin to bid their final farewells to Manchán.
Those attending the mass heard how Manchán had married his partner, Aisling Rogerson, in the hospital just weeks before he died.
The funeral took place at Gonzaga College Chapel in Dublin, where he was described as a "teacher, builder, global inspiration and a beautiful human," per The Irish Independent.
Ruán, Manchán's brother, spoke to those attending of his brother and Aisling Rogerson's wedding, in St James' Hospital.
"We were very touched.
"The porters in James's created a bridal suite for them, with flowers and champagne, non-alcoholic, and all sorts of gorgeous things."
Ruán went on to thank those who helped make their special day, despite being in the hospital, very memorable and heartfelt.
Aisling also spoke of how she fell in love with the author.
She recalled how, after reading his book, Anges and Rabies, she fell in love with Manchán. She went on to explain that it was Manchán who gifted her the book when they first met, marking page 255 to be read.
Aisling told all those attending, family and friends, that by the time she had finished reading the book, she was in love.
She went on to describe him as "someone who was so connected to his culture and his heritage and his Irishness, but he had such wide-open arms for the world and everything that it offered."
Musicians, including Glen Hansard, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Lisa O'Neill and Colm Mac Con Iomaire, played at the service while Niall Breslin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh of Kneecap were also in attendance.
Manchán was cremated after the mass, and his ashes are due to be scattered at the Hill of Uisneach in Westmeath on November 1.
