One man has died and another is injured after a shooting outside a church in Co. Fermanagh earlier today.

It is believed that the incident happened around 1pm outside St. Mary’s Church, Newtownbutler.

According to reports, a third man received a stab wound to his hand.

“The victim was shot along with another man outside a chapel on Main Street in Newtownbutler at around 1pm this afternoon.

“He was flown to hospital in a police helicopter but died from his injuries. The other man, who is in his 30s, is not believed to have sustained any life-threatening injuries” said PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Michael Harvey.

Parish priest Father Michael King was about to start the wedding ceremony when gun shots were heard.

Police and emergency services were called and the priest told a local radio station that the wedding then went ahead.

“I went on ahead with the wedding, I could do nothing else because they were anxious to get this girl married”.
