Man arrested on suspicion of planning attacks at Euro 2016

A Frenchman has been arrested on suspicion on planning a number of attacks at the European Football Championships 2016.

According to The Guardian, Ukraine’s state security service, The SBU had been keeping the man under surveillance since December.

Before arresting him at the Ukranian-Polish border in May, they witnessed him buy “five machine guns, two rocket-propelled grenades, and other weapons”.

The SBU has not released the man’s identity but said he had “ultra-nationalist” views and was planning attacks on Jewish and Muslim places of worship. French government buildings, bridges and railways.

The tournament begins on June 10th and French President Francois Hollande has said 90,000 security forces have been deployed.

The news of this arrest comes after last week’s news where a terror alert was issued before the many music festivals and sports events due to take place this summer.
