A man in his 20s has been arrested in Cork following an overnight stand-off with gardaí.
The incident began when a young woman ran from a house in Mallow shortly after 2am and claimed she had been assaulted.
The man then barricarded himself into the house and refused to leave, leading to a four-hour stand off with gardaí.
No weapons were involved in the stand-off but it’s believed that armed members of the Regional Support Unit (RSU) attended the scene as a precaution.
The man surrendered himself at 6.30am this morning and has since been arrested and questioned at Mallow Garda Station.
The woman is being treated for minor injuries and is said to be “deeply upset” after being held in the house against her will.
