Man arrested in Dublin’s Parnell Square after allegedly brandishing knife outside school

The incident occurred earlier today.

Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 30s was arrested on Tuesday (28 May) for “alleged threatening behaviour” in the Parnell Square area of Dublin city centre.

The incident occurred during the morning time, with The Irish Independent reporting that the man allegedly brandished a knife outside a school.

The paper also reports that the man did not gain access to the school.

It is understood that the man is Irish.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said that no injuries were reported and that the man was arrested for “alleged offences under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act”.

The full statement from the Gardaí reads:

“Following an incident this morning in the Parnell Square area of Dublin City Centre where alleged threatening behaviour was undertaken, a male (30s) has been arrested for alleged offences under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

“The male is currently in custody in a Dublin City Centre Garda Station.

“There are no injuries reported as a result of this incident.

“An Garda Síochána had been conducting regular patrols in this area and these patrols will continue.

“Gardaí are liaising with the local community and anyone impacted by the incident.”
