Add us as a preferred source on Google »Mamma Mia 3 is officially in the works, according to one of the stars of the original films.
When the first Mamma Mia film was released in 2008, it was a global smash. Based on the hit jukebox musical of the same name, which is based all around the music of ABBA, the film grossed almost $700m worldwide.
A decade later, fans got a long-awaited sequel, which saw much of the original cast return, and was also a success.
And it sounds like the story isn't ending there either.
Christine Baranski, who plays Tanya in the films, has revealed Mamma Mia producer Judy Craymer is planning a third movie.
The actress told the Hollywood Reporter that she had met Craymer in London, where the producer had told her the narrative plotline of the potential third film.
She told the publication: "I was in London with Judy Kramer at our favorite watering hole, she is planning Mamma Mia 3. She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen.
"That’s all I can say! But, it’s not like, 'Oh, I wish it could happen!' Judy Kramer makes things happen. She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit.
"I wouldn’t put it past Judy Kramer to get everybody back together."
And Baranski was in no doubt about whether a threequel would be a success or not, saying "it's just the kind of movie that makes people happy."
She continued: "People are drawn to happiness and to joy, not doom and gloom. Mamma Mia made so many millions of people around the world happy. Is it a little dumb, a little campy? That’s part of its charm."
