Thousands line the streets for Christy Dignam’s funeral

Christy Dignam passed away on Tuesday, June 13th.

Thousands of fans have lined the streets to bid farewell to Aslan’s Christy Dignam this morning.

The singer’s private funeral will be held this morning, but fans gathered to say goodbye on the streets of Finglas before the service.

Aslan fans honoured the late musician by singing ‘Crazy World’ and ‘This Is’ as Christy’s funeral cortege passed  by.

Christy’s family also greeted those who had gathered at Christy’s GAA club in Finglas.

Fans also gathered on the streets where he grew up and at his old school.

A video tribute, which featured highlights of Christy’s iconic career, played as his family and fans watched on.

Christy died from cancer at the age of 63 on June 13th. The beloved musician passed away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

The music legend’s family described him as a “charismatic frontman” and “modest”.

They stated, “Christy’s loss leaves a void that will be impossible to fill. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathryn, his darling daughter Kiera, grandchildren Cian, Ava, and Jake, son-in-law Darren Moran, sisters and brothers Bernadette, Deirdre, James, Brian, Therese, Jackie and Eddie, extended family, fellow Aslan members, neighbours, friends and all who knew and loved him.”

Aslan also paid tribute to their beloved bandmate:

“We are beyond devastated to have lost not only our band member, but our friend, Christy, that we have so many, many years of sharing our lives with.”
