The singer, who won Eurovision in 1992, revealed that she has been approached by a political party and is currently weighing up the possibility of entering the race.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1 with Oliver Callan, Martin teased the idea.
She joked that in future, people should address her as "Lady President."
When asked for more details, she backtracked and said: “I’m saying nothing at all. That’s all I’m saying.
“I was approached. It sounds bizarre but sure… can you imagine what I could be doing for the animals."
While Martin did not confirm which political party had approached her, she hinted that if she were to run, she would likely do it with party backing rather than as an independent candidate.
With President Michael D. Higgins’ second and final term set to conclude later this year, rumours are circulating about potential candidates for the presidency.
Several well-known people have been linked to the race, including Riverdance star Michael Flatley, who previously suggested he wouldn’t rule it out.
As the election draws closer, all eyes will be on Martin to see whether she actually makes a step into the political realm.
