Add us as a preferred source on Google »Liam and Noel Gallagher’s Irish mam, Peggy, is said to be ‘delighted’ her sons have put their differences aside for the Oasis reunion.
Peggy, from Co Mayo, has always urged the pair to stop arguing and this morning’s announcement will come as music to the 81-year-old’s ears.
The brothers have had a strained relationship for years with many memorable spats, but the final straw came in 2009 when a row backstage ahead of a show in Paris caused Noel to quit the band.
With this morning’s announcement that Liam, 51, and Noel, 57, are getting back together for an Oasis tour next year, their doting mother will be thrilled.
Former Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs was reportedly a central figure, taking on the role of peacemaker between the brothers.
According to reports, a series of late-night phone calls between the pair led to Noel being persuaded to bury the hatchet.
A source told The Mirror: “Peggy would love to see them back playing together and has always urged them to stop arguing and put the past behind them.”
Ahead of her 80th birthday last year, Peggy reportedly told Liam to mend the rift with Noel during a mother-and-son spa break at the Cliveden House in Berkshire.
In Liam’s 2019 documentary As It Was, sitting beside her youngest son, she opened up about her hopes of a reconciliation declaring that they are all going to get along, and ‘that’s it’.
She went on to say: “The way I look at it, darling, life is very short and if anything happened to either one of you, you'd never…”
Later that year, Noel hinted that he was willing to sort things out for his mother’s sake.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, he said: “Our family has never been close. I don’t know one person, one single person, in my life who is living in the perfect family. Not one.”
He added: “Reconciliation is a good thing.”
Peggy still has a holiday house in Co Mayo which she visits often. Neighbours told the Irish Sun that she will be ‘absolutely delighted’ by the news.
Publican John Finan who has known the family for years said: "I believe their mother will be absolutely delighted and will give them her full approval.
"No one wants to see their sons fighting.
"All those years ago no one ever thought that they would become as big as they did. They are two very normal, talented lads."
Oasis kick off their tour on July 4th in Cardiff before travelling to Manchester to play four nights in Heaton Park, then they will play London for four nights before heading to Scotland and concluding the run of dates in Dublin's Croke Park.
