The Utrecht shooting took place at 10.45 on Monday morning
Dutch police have confirmed that one person has been killed after a man opened fire on a tram in the city of Utrecht on Monday morning.
Several other people have been taken to hospital, but it is not yet known how serious their injuries are.
An anti-terrorism unit has been dispatched to the scene, and three helicopters are flying over the location.
A reporter for national broadcaster NOS reported that a white sheet had been placed over a body near the tram where the shooting took place.
Dutch police have reportedly ordered all schools to close down and keep children inside.
Police are reportedly looking for a red car in connection with the incident.
It is understood that they are taking into account a possible terrorist motive for the attack.
They tweeted:
“Shooting incident report 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht was at 10.45am. This is a shooting incident in a tram. Several trauma heli have been deployed to provide assistance.”
