Man (20s) arrested over serious assault on young woman in Kildare

Gardaí in Kildare have arrested a man in his 20s over a serious sexual assault on a young woman on July 17th. He is currently in custody at Kildare Garda Station. The suspect is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The attack took place in a woodland area at Moore Abbey, near Monasterevin, Kildare. According to The Journal, the young woman knew her attacker. Gardaí were informed about the attack on Sunday, July 17th. They then made contact with the young woman and took her to a sexual assault treatment unit at a Dublin hospital. They're calling on witnesses to come forward and assist with the investigation. “Gardaí would particularly like to speak with two women who assisted the injured party." They also want anyone in the Monasterevin area on Sunday 17th between 1 pm and 5.20 pm who may have footage (including dash-cam) to make that footage available to them.
