Animal control officers in Savannah, Georgia were treated to an extraordinary sight when they spotted a pit bull carrying a chihuahua inside her mouth through a local neighbourhood.
Joanie the pit bull was acting as the protective pal to chihuahua Chaci, who he was carrying in his mouth, and only stopped to lick the small dog’s infected eye.
According to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, the two dogs were insperable, with one officer telling the Huffington Post:
“It’s not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this.
“They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart.”
After the animals were taken into a local shelter, veterinarians had to remove Chaci’s infected eye who is now recovering from the ordeal – still with some one-on-one time daily with best friend Joanie.
A spokesperson for the shelter said:
“Staff is amazed at the dedication and love these two have for one another.”
Since no owners have since come forward for either dogs, the shelter put out an appeal for both dogs to be adopted out together?
The result?
Joanie the pit bull and Chachi the Chihuahua “are going to have Happy Days in Florida!,” in the words of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.
