An Irishman has died in Germany after being struck by a car following an alleged stabbing spree.
The man, believed to be in his late 20s, is suspected of stabbing three people before being knocked down on a busy motorway.
After travelling by taxi from Dutch city Heerlen to Aachen in Germany, the man allegedly stabbed the taxi driver. He then stabbed a German man who had refused to give him money.
The man then hailed another taxi to take him to Cologne. On receiving a warning about the passenger, the driver dropped him off at a lay-by and fled.
The man allegedly stabbed a Lithuanian truck driver in the car park before running across the motorway. He was knocked down and killed.
According to reports, all three stab victims were treated in hospital. One was described as being in a critical condition.
UPDATE (8.13pm): Reports this morning have identified the Irishman suspected of being involved in the attacks as 27-year-old Enda McLoughlin from Co Donegal.
McLoughlin was apparently well know to the gardaí with over 20 convictions and regular court appearances. He was released from prison back in April.
