A 22 year old woman from Ireland survived being hit by three subway trains in New York after falling on the tracks.
Mary Downey was waiting for a train at 6am following a night out, when she stumbled, falling onto the tracks at Times Square Station.
Downey, who now lives in Woodlawn, Bronx, managed to survive being crushed by three oncoming trains after she rolled into a small gap that sits between the different train tracks.
Police confirmed that the young woman broke her shoulder after falling onto the tracks, but was otherwise unharmed.
FDNY Battalion Chief Mike Meyers told the New York Post:
“She was lucky enough to have, it looks like to us, rolled to the platform and was in between the platform and the train when the train came into the station.”
Downey was eventually discovered when the third train driver saw Downey’s hand waving for help. Emergency services was called and the 22-year old was taken to Bellevue hospital.
Downey was released from the hospital hours later in a wheelchair, and is now recovering at home.
