The Irish woman tragically killed during a terrorist attack in Tunisia had been due to fly home today, it has been revealed.

Lorna Carty was enjoying a break at the Hotel Imperial Marhaba in Sousse with her husband Declan when a terrorist, believed to be a member of the ISIS group, opened fire on the popular resort killing over thirty people.

It was confirmed yesterday evening that the Meath nurse was among those who died in the attack, with several other Irish families in the area when the shocking incident took place.

According to RTÉ News, the couple received the holiday as a gift from a family member after Declan has undergone heart surgery and they had been due to fly home to Ireland today.

“It was one of the hardest phone calls I ever made and it was so sad to hear what happened. It was supposed to be a time for them to go and enjoy themselves and relax on holiday. It was a gift that has ended so tragically. The community is shocked, the whole area is,” said local TD Ray Butler.
