An Irish woman has died in Morocco

An Irish woman, who has yet to be identified, has died in Morocco.

The woman, who lived in Taghazout, in the south-west coastal region of Morocco, died after being stabbed.

Local media report that a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of the murder of an Irish woman on Wednesday morning. The alarm was raised after screams were heard from her apartment.

Police were called to the scene where they found the victim bleeding as a result of stab wounds. She was later taken to hospital where she died.

The suspect was said to be in “an advanced state of intoxication” and has been placed in police custody.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is offering consular assistance to anyone who needs it.
