It has been confirmed that an Irish woman was among those killed in the Malaysian Airline disaster that occurred in Ukraine yesterday.
Dublin born Edel Mahady had been home visiting her mother in Ireland and was returning back to Australia. It was confirmed today that she was a passenger on board MH17.
Two hundred and ninety eight people were killed when the airliner was shot down in eastern Ukraine, near the Russian border.
So far 189 Dutch, 44 Malaysian, 27 Australian and 12 Indonesian citizens have been confirmed among the dead, as well as one American who held dual citizenship in the U.S. and the Netherlands.
Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan has spoken to the family and offered his condolences.
