Gardaí also urged the public not to share the images.

Yesterday, a woman in her 30s was killed in a serious road traffic accident on the M50 in Dublin.

The incident took place on the M50 Northbound at Junction 5, where a man was also injured.

The man, who is in his 50s, was taken to Connolly hospital, and his condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Following the collision, a number of graphic images and videos were shared from the scene of the crime.

Last night, Gardaí urged the public “not to share or circulate the images out of respect to the family of the deceased and those involved in the collision.”

And now, Independent Senator Lynn Ruane has taken to Twitter to urge the public to stop sharing the footage.

She said:

“My friend has lost his sister and the last thing his family need right now is an image of the accident. Thank you in advance.”

Along with this, she shared a lengthier message, telling people how they can help ensure the footage is taken down.

Mayo County Council road safety officer also urged people not share images of accidents on social media.

“Social media is an easy outlet for people to get information to a vast number of people instantly.”

“When someone finds out about a death of a loved one in a message, where it’s such a broad spectrum it’s very impersonal and obviously a shock to the person when they find out.”

“Sometimes it’s enough to know that horrible things happen without having to see them.”
