A woman in her late forties has today been sentenced to 14 years in prison after she was found guilty on charges of repeated sexual abuse of her daughter and child exploitation.
Judge Tony Hunt said at a sitting of the circuit court in Longford this morning that the woman was guilty on “the highest scale” of neglect and abuse.
RTÉ reports that the final four-and-a-half years of the sentence were suspended, but that Judge Hunt made an order that the woman would be subject to a period of post-release supervision and would enter into a bond which prohibited her from making any contact with the daughter in question, or her two other children.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, comes from the west of Ireland.
A former neighbor of the woman and her daughter has already been convicted of raping the girl and is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence.
