Irish couple tragically die in road accident in Rome

An Irish couple have tragically passed away following a road accident in Rome, Italy.

The couple, aged 59 and 60, were hit by a car when they were crossing a road in the city.

They have been named locally as Paul and Mary O’Reilly from Kilmore, Co Wexford.

According to reports, police in Italy have launched an investigation following the tragedy.

It is understood that the couple were crossing a busy road in Rome when they were struck by a car. They were crossing the road to try to catch a bus.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 7th.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 54-year-old man, attempted to save the couple, but both the husband and wife died at the scene.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the incident.

A spokesperson confirmed to Extra.ie:

“The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”
