An investigation has been launched after a woman in her 70s has died following a house fire in Co. Roscommon.
Emergency services were called to a fire that broke out at a home in Ballaghaderreen last night.
It is believed that the woman was alone in the house at the time of the fire.
The woman is understood to be in her mid-seventies and living in Friary Park in the west Roscommon town.
The alarm was raised shortly after 9 p.m. last night when units of the Roscommon Fire Service were called to the scene.
It is reported that neighbours in the estate attempted to help save the woman but were unsuccessful.
Her body was then recovered from the damaged building not long after and she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coroner for Roscommon has been notified and an inquest is due to be held at a later date.
