Hollywood Comes To Northern Ireland And With It Jobs For Locals

The Oscar nominated director and producer Ridley Scott is set to executive produce six films which will be shot in Northern Ireland next year.

The man behind cult classics Alien and Blade Runner and his production company Scott Free London are teaming up with Orchard Media and Focus Features to produce the low budget flicks.

The initiative named Ridley Scott Presents is funded through the Northern Ireland Screen Fund with support from Invest NI and the European Regional Development Fund and will use local crews, cast members, services and facilities.

Ireland had always been a popular location for Hollywood 

Speaking to The Belfast Telegraph, Scott says “Our target is to create a structure that enables film-makers to push boundaries and to excite audiences. Our proposed model of film-making allows us to give directors the opportunity to really innovate through narrative, production techniques and distribution strategies.”

Ireland has always been a popular location for Hollywood directors and many iconic movies have been shot on the Emerald Isle including Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan and scenic shots of the Cliffs of Moher for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
