The agent of Hollyoaks star Diane Langton has confirmed her death at the age of 77.
The Somerset native began her acting career in the 1950s. While she appeared in iconic shows such as EastEnders, Only Fools and Horses, and Heartbeat, the role she will be best remembered for is that of Nana McQueen in the long-running Channel 4 soap opera, Hollyoaks.
Her agent, Shane Collins, issued a statement earlier this afternoon confirming her passing.
"I am sad to say that Diane Langton passed away this morning," he wrote. "Diane had a rich and remarkable career appearing on stage, in films, and on television, including playing the iconic Nana McQueen in Hollyoaks from 2007 to the present day."
He continued: "Diane trained at the Corona Academy and started her professional career as a dancer, touring with ballet companies throughout Europe, followed by appearances on That Was the Week That Was and The London Palladium."
Langton joined the cast of Hollyoaks in 2007. She left the show in 2009 before returning in 2012.
She left the soap again in 2023 only to return this year - and she continued to star in the series up to her death.
BBC radio host Elaine Page was among the first to pay tribute to the legendary actress. She wrote on X: "In total shock at Diane Langton's passing.
"Memories of us in Hair flooding back. Her in the dressing room with a bottle of brown ale! We also recorded an LP called 'Sparrow.' She was a unique, talented artist. A funny, kind & special friend. My thoughts with husband Derek. RIP Diane."
Broadcaster Steve Allen posted: "Now Diane Langton has died only 77 she was Del's girlfriend at one point. RIP great actress and singer."
