This lovely dry weather we’re currently experiencing is going to take a turn for the worst on New Year’s Eve with rain expected. It could put a dampner on people’s plans for ringing in the New Year.
Rain will move from the west in the evening turning persistent over the country on Saturday.
Speaking about the forecast for New Year’s Eve, Met Éireann has said:
“Saturday, New Years Eve, will see a mild and dry start but in the evening the moderate southwest wind will freshen to become strong in the northwest, while cloud thickens there, bringing rain on to the northwest coast by evening.
The rain will turn persistent and push southeastwards over the country on Saturday night introducing a much colder northerly wind.
A frost will develop in the northwest later on Saturday night as the rain clears there and breaks in cloud develop.”
The rain is set to continue until Sunday afternoon with even colder weather expected on Monday.
