There are few sights as heartbreaking as that of an unwanted dog in a rescue shelter. What is perhaps even more excruciating is the sound of a pup crying every night after they have been returned to the very same shelter for the second time.
Unfortunately that's the story of adorable pitbull Roxy, who was initially taken in by Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in 2017 after wandering the streets of New York alone in search for safety.
After her first stint in the shelter, Roxy gained the confidence to secure herself a new home.
Devastatingly, Roxy's owner was forced to return her after they ended up homeless, and Roxy was back at square one.
In an upsetting clip shared to TikTok, the shelter revealed that Roxy howls every night hoping that somebody will hear her pleas for a new home and family.
In a Facebook appeal, the shelter explained: "She needs a home that will allow her to decompress after being in and out of the shelter system.
"Roxy deserves an adult home, low-traffic, where she gets to be who she really is. She's good on leash, accepts rewards happily and enjoys to be pet. She needs a home where she can experience the world with her trusting family; providing support and positive reinforcement."
The appeal continues: "She is friendly with people she knows and has been friendly with strangers.
"She truly needs someone who will set her up for success!"
Several people commented on the appeal, sending their love and support for Roxy and praying that she finds a loving new home soon.
One user wrote: "Praying that someone step up and saves you baby girl in Jesus name Amen please save her."
"Positive waves and good vibes to you sweet little one that you find the absolute perfect home and loving family," another added.
One other commented: "How sad, I couldn't even comprehend the idea of doing this to my senior pitbulls whom are 17 and 15.
"They have given and continue to bless me with their companionship their whole lives. They will pass knowing they were loved and cherished till their last breath."
