If you find Cannes or Sundance too highbrow, you’ll be pleased to hear that there is a new film festival in town and this one is PURRRRFECT! (Hah, see what we did there?)
Wired.com reports that the first-ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival will take place next month in Minneapolis in the States. What does an Internet Cat Video Film Festival involve? Well, believe it or not, it involves various videos of cats and kittens doing what they do best: sleeping, eating, playing and getting their meow on. Awesome, right?
The festival will take place on August 30th, on the grounds of the Walker Art Centre – one of the leading contemporary art museums in America.
“While enjoyed by a broad online audience of millions, cat videos are normally viewed alone…until now,” wrote Kate Czarniecki, the organiser of the festival, on the Walker Art Centre blog.
The entire festival is expected to last one hour (cat-related YouTube clips are generally only a minute long) and you can nominate your favourite viral kitty by clicking here.
The festival seeks to prove to everyone that internet videos of cats are a valid form of art and expression. Eh…yes…
Anyway, in spirit of the first ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival, here is the best internet cat of them all…Nyan Cat!
Is it a cat? Is it a pop tart? Why on earth are rainbows coming out of its backside? We’re not sure, but his little song is oddly soothing…
