The (former) girlfriend of the Winter Olympian who admitted to cheating her on live TV has responded in an emotional statement.
Yesterday, the Winter Olympic world was rocked by a viral moment from men's biathlon, not because of the sport, but what happened after
Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid won a bronze medal in the men's 20km individual biathlon event (cross-country skiing mixed with shooting) and quickly proceeded to admit to cheating on live TV.
The 28-year-old went quickly viral after, tearing up as he admitted his infidelity.
Laegreid said: "There is someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today.
"Six months ago, I met the love of my life. The most beautiful and wonderful person in the world.
"Three months ago, I made my biggest mistake and was unfaithful to her, and I told her about it a week ago.
"It has been the worst week of my life.
"I had the gold medal of life, and I’m sure there are many who see me in a different light now, but I only have eyes for her."
Now his seemingly former girlfriend has replied.
Issuing a statement to Norwegian outlet VG, she said: "Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world, it’s hard to forgive.
“I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it.
“We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this.”
