Gardaí sealed off a bottle bank in a car park on the Daingean Road in Tullamore in order to gather evidence over the murder.
A source told The Mirror: “There has been a hive of activity in relation to the investigation as gardai wait to question the new suspect and there has been huge progression since this murder on Wednesday.”
According to the publication, a house was searched outside Tullamore on Friday and Saturday and remained sealed off last night, with the house in Dublin he is believed to have stayed also being searched.
Gardaí also believe that DNA from this suspect is crucial as they now have taken evidence from the distinctive Falcon Storm bike that was discovered near the murder scene.
The Garda Water Unit has also been continuing its search on the canal where Ashling's body was discovered.
