Gardaí search Drogheda house in relation to Kyran Durnin case

The last confirmed sighting of Kyran was in May of 2022.

Gardaí have issued a statement today saying that they have begun a search of a domestic residence in Drogheda, Co Louth, related to the disappearance of Kyran Durnin.

In the statement, An Garda Síochána said: “The house will be subject of technical and forensic examinations.

“The purpose of the search is to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyrans’ current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.”

They added that they have “received extensive support from the public” concerning this investigation, but “have been unable to locate Kyran”, who would now be 8 years old.

The press release also warned that Gardaí are aware “of ongoing extensive public commentary on this investigation, including speculation, rumours and theories on what may have happened to Kyran, most of which is inaccurate and misinformed.”

They added: “Such ill-informed public commentary is not only disruptive to the Garda investigations but also adds to the trauma experienced by victims families.”

In August of last year, then 6-year-old Kyran was reported missing, with Gardaí being told he had not been seen for two days.

However, during their investigation, Gardaí were led to believe that Kyran had been missing for longer than two days and in October the missing person’s case was upgraded to murder.

Gardaí are still appealing for anyone with information relating to the case to come forward.

They said: “Do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team.

“This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
