People are being asked to contact Gardaí if they receive a suspicious call.
Gardaí in Co. Galway are warning members of the public not to give their bank details out over the phone as a new scam has caused a number of people to lose money.
According to the Connacht Tribune, people in the north of Galway have been scammed out of a significant amount of money after responding to a call purporting to be a company offering computer repairs.
The report states that an elderly couple in Tuam were scammed for almost €2,000 , while another woman in the area was also scammed out of money after believing she was talking to the bank on the phone and gave out her account details.
Gardaí in the area are advising locals not to release their bank details or any other confidential details over the phone, and have asked anyone who has received a suspicious call to contact them on 093 24202 or to contact any Garda station.
