Well this is one inventive way to solve the student accommodation crisis.
According to Galway Bay FM, Winters Property company in the city is in talks with Bibby Maritime to create accommodation for 400 students in Galway Harbour.
The new accommodation would spread over two barges and feature en-suite bedrooms, restaurants, recreation rooms, reception, laundry facilities and even wi-fi services.
Barges are already used for accommodation throughout Europe, particularly in heavily populated cities and work extremely well as an alternative type of housing.

Managing Director of Winters Property, Enda McGuane told FYI Galway that they had to think outside the box to try and accommodate students.
All costs, permits and compliance would have to be fully explored but if found suitable, Enda McGuane says the barge accommodation could be available within 3 weeks.
