Talk about a party pooper.
A five-year old boy from Cornwall could be facing legal action after he failed to turn up to a friend’s birthday party.
Alex Nash was invited to attend a friend’s birthday party a dry ski slope before Christmas, but instead chose to spend the day with his grandparents. After failing to turn up to the party, Alex’s parents were issued with an invoice.
The invoice, issued by the birthday boy’s mum Julia Lawrence, said she resorted to charging a ‘no-show’ fee as she was left “out of pocket” by Alex not turning up.
The invoice contained a “Party No Show Fee” of £15.95.
Speaking to the BBC, Alex’s father Derek said he could understand Ms. Lawrence’s upset, but was annoyed by the way she addressed the money situation:
“I can understand that she’s upset about losing money. The money isn’t the issue, it’s the way she went about trying to get the money from me.
“She didn’t treat me like a human being, she treated me like a child and that I should do what she says.”
Ms. Lawrence has threatened the Nash family with the Small Claims Court if they refuse to pay, while Derek said the family tried to contact Ms. Lawrence but said they had no details for her.
Ms. Lawrence insists she included her number on the invitation and insists on being paid the full money owed.
