Five people have been confirmed dead and three others injured following a road collision in County Louth.
The five people who died in the crash are all under the age of 25, and were from several areas across the northeast.
They were all travelling in the same car which collided with another vehicle on the L3168 in the townland of Gibstown, Dundalk last night, Saturday November 15, shortly after 9pm.
One of the people who was traveling in the same car as the deceased is among the injured, while the other two injured individuals were in the other vehicle.
It is understood that the group of youngsters were travelling to a location to socialise when the collision occurred.
The scene is being preserved ahead of a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
The L3168 and the Ardee Road remain closed with local diversions in place.
In a statement, Gardaí said: "Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the L3168, Ardee Road, Dundalk, Co. Louth between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on the night of Saturday 15th November, 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
