Roscommon referee Rhona Daly became the centre of attention when she awarded a controversial penalty in a match between Donegal's Finn Harps and Mervue United on Saturday.
According to the Irish Daily Mail, Daly was subjected to vulgar and sexist slurs from the crowd after allowing the goal.
A senior Finn Harps official said that the incident could result in a large fine for the Donegal Club which is struggling financially.
Finn Harps secretary, John Campbell said that the club could face fines of up to €500.
"There are so many people working so hard to keep this club afloat. An incident like this could cost the club a €500 fine. It's not acceptable for the club and people need to know there can be consequences," he said.
Finn Harps defeated Mervue United with a final score of 3-2.
