Felicity Huffman gets 14 days in prison for paying to have daughter’s exam answers fixed

Felicity Huffman will serve jail time for her part in the college admissions scam in the US.

The actress has been handed down a 14-day prison sentence in Boston's federal court for paying to help ensure her daughter's place at university. She admitted to having paid an admissions consultant $15,000 to have her daughter Sofia's SAT exam answers corrected by an invigilator in 2017. Huffman pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and fraud in May of this year. As well as her jail time, the star will have to do 250 hours of community service and has been fined $30,000. In a statement after the ruling yesterday, she apologised for what she had done. "There are no excuses or justifications for my actions. Period," she said. "I would like to apologise again to my daughter, my husband, my family and the educational community for my actions. "And I especially want to apologise to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices supporting their children."

Huffman is the first person to be sentenced in a scandal involving 50 parents and athletics coaches, reports BBC News. Parents charged are accused of bribing college officials and fraudulently altering their children's applications to secure places at universities including Yale, Georgetown and Stanford.
