A new study has revealed being a father of daughters has an unexpected benefit: they tend to live longer compared to those without them.
Researchers from Jagiellonian University carried out extensive research that analysed the effects of childbirth on fathers' lifespans.
In this study, data was collected by examining demographic data from a substantial sample size of over 4,310 individuals, comprising of 2,147 mothers and 2,163 fathers.
The study looked at the number of children, differentiating between daughters and sons, to pinpoint any potential effects on fathers' lifespan.
The data showed that the total number of children or the number of sons had no discernible impact on fathers' longevity.
There was, however, a correlation between the number of daughters and paternal life expectancy.
The key finding from this research indicates that fathers with daughters tend to live longer lives, with an interesting trend emerging – the more daughters a father has, the longer he is likely to live.
The data states that for each daughter born, a father's lifespan may be extended by an average of '74 weeks'.
