A father whose foster-daughter died after he left her in a car for several hours in 32C heat, has been jailed for just under three years.
Seth Jackson admitted to involuntary manslaughter of Kadillak Poe-Jones after leaving the 10-month old in his car while he smoked marijuana and watched Game of Thrones.
The 29-year old said he was reminded of the baby when a child appeared on-screen while watching the TV show.
Police said an autopsy confirmed that the baby, who was left for several hours in the car on July 24th in Wichita, Kansas, died due to heat exposure.
The court heard how Jackson had bought marijuana from a dealer and then returned home to smoke it, forgetting to take Kadillak with him.
When the teaching assistant realised his mistake, he rushed back to the car to find the baby dead.
He had been fostering the child since she was two weeks old.
Pleading with the judge not to be jailed, Jackson told the judge:
“Your honour, I’m a broken man, pleading here for my life.
“I’m not a monster.”
Jackson was sentenced to jail for just under three years, with the judge ruling that although it may not have been intentional, the teaching assistant had abandoned Kadillak.
Jackson and his partner Schroeder had five other children in their care at the time of the incident.
The couple were foster parents to three other children ages 3, 5 and 18, and two adopted children ages 5 and 7.
According to the CBS News, the two younger foster children were visiting relatives at the time the 10-month-old died.
