Hooters, the American restaurant chain made famous more for its busty waitresses than the food, has come under fire after a ‘pro-rape’ post was published on the brand’s Facebook page.
An image showing a young woman pointing to her crotch, accompanied with a pro-rape caption, was posted with an external link which Hooters claim was the result of their page being hacked.
The caption to the picture reads:
“Exhibit A: The proof she was asking for it your Honour.”
The picture caused instant backlash online, with Hooters releasing a statement to address the criticism from users:
“Today, our Facebook page was hacked and all admin rights were suspended. We apologize for the unauthorized posts made and are distressed by the insensitive material that was posted out of our control. Hooters does not share these opinions.
“As of 7 p.m. EST, we have regained admin rights to our page and are working closely with Facebook to investigate the matter.”
The post has since been deleted and the social media team are now investigating how their page was hacked.
Visitors to the page have called for the immediate dismissal of any staff member who may have been involved with the original posting of the crude image and caption.
