“Please delete immediately.”
There’s a brand new scam causing trouble for people in Ireland this week as many have been tricked into believing a scam email purporting to be from Electric Ireland is in fact genuine.
Electric Ireland has now warned customers that they should delete an email claiming to be from the company, which asks them to click a link in order to view a “Refund Notification”.
The link asks the customer to scan a copy of their passport and provide bank details in order to complete the request.

In a statement, Electric Ireland has said that the email is “a phishing email attempting to obtain customers’ debit card details”.
“This email was not sent by Electric Ireland,” the statement reads. “And we are advising those who receive this email not to click on the link or reply to the email.
“If you are an Electric Ireland customer we would like to assure you that your personal details on Electric Ireland’s database are secure and have not been compromised.”
Anyone who has already completed the form are being advised to contact their bank immediately and change the password on their Online Billing Account.
The matter is now being investigated and has been reported to the Gardaí.
