The incident occurred shortly before 5:30pm.
A woman has been killed after being struck by a train on Thursday evening.
An Irish Rail spokesperson confirmed that the woman died shortly before 5:30pm.
The incident took place on the line near Killonan level crossing.
She was hit by a train that was travelling from Dublin to Limerick.
Irish Rail has since suspended train services between Limerick and Limerick Junction as emergency services attended the incident on the line.
Bus transfers from Limerick to Limerick Junction are now in place as well as Limerick to Ballybrophy via Nenagh.
