#Covid-19: Daniel O’Donnell tells fans to ignore online Covid-19 scam as fraudsters impersonate singer

Daniel O’Donnell urges fans to ignore an online scam circulating in his name.

A fake account has been set up on Instagram impersonating the singer and asking fans for large sums of money.

The scam pertains to be in relation to the Covid-19 crisis and Daniel has taken to his official website and Facebook page, telling followers to ignore the requests.

Describing the scam as “social media fraud”, the official statement explains that the scam has used Daniel’s persona in a bid to get people to donate to the coronavirus outbreak.

As per the statement, “Daniel would never ask to donate money to any cause, on social media or or otherwise”.

It also urged fans to spread the word of the fake account and to say safe at home amidst the current health crisis.

It has been reported to Gardaí and if you have been victim of said scam, it’s important to contact your local branch immediately.

Speaking today, Daniel said:

“This is horrendous to see at this difficult time for everyone. I am absolutely appalled that criminals would take advantage of the good people of Ireland and my international fans to set up this fake account to make money. I urge my fans to spread the news that this is a fake account and under no circumstance should they donate to these fraudsters”.
